All compressed gases and cryogenic liquids used at NC State University must be ordered through MarketPlace. Any person who handles gas regulators shall watch the Compressed Gas Regulator Installation video, and those dispensing cryogenic liquids shall watch the Cryogenic Safety video. In addition to the standard, required work practices for inert gases, hazardous gases may require additional controls such as gas cabinets, gas monitors, emergency shut-offs, proper equipment design, leak testing and the use of air supplying respirators for certain highly toxic gases. Cryogenic liquids shall not be used or stored in areas with inadequate ventilation. Only trained and authorized persons shall deliver or relocate any gas cylinder. EHS requires a service elevator be used (unless unavailable) for transport between floors, and no persons other than trained and authorized gas vendor delivery staff shall accompany the cylinder on the elevator.
