Building Marshal Program

The purpose of the Building Marshal Program is to create a point of contact for the Fire and Life Safety’s Office within each NC State owned building. The Building Marshals assist with emergency evacuations or sheltering-in-place emergencies in their designated building by relaying information to building occupants and giving directions to those they encounter.

For instance, as the Building Marshal evacuates the building, they ensure others are leaving as well. Once outside of the building, they direct occupants to assembly areas, prevent re-entry of the building and take accountability of known building occupants. At no time is the Building Marshal expected to jeopardize their safety. For more information about becoming a Building Marshal, please contact us!
